CONJUNCTIVITIS
Sorry, we don’t call it “pink eye” anymore. Eye redness, tenderness, irritation, and watery discharge are a few symptoms associated with conjunctivitis. This condition can be caused by allergies, bacteria, or viruses. Depending on the type of conjunctivitis, treatment can range from cold compresses to prescription eye drop medication. Optometrists and ophthalmologists are the best people to see if you have conjunctivitis. Plus, it saves you a trip to urgent care or the emergency room. Bonus points if you can say “conjunctivitis” five times fast!

FLASHES, FLOATERS, AND SUDDEN LOSS OF VISION
If you are experiencing sudden changes such as flashes of light, significant floaters, or loss of vision, this is considered an eye emergency. These symptoms are commonly associated with ocular migraines and other non-threatening diseases, but can be caused by serious sight-threatening emergencies like retinal detachments. Even in the middle of the night, call us and make an emergency appointment. In the words of Dr. Ryan, “You only get two eyes - make sure they’re healthy!”

EYE TRAUMA
If you have a work-related eye injury (or play-related eye injury), we’re here to help. We treat everything from metal in the eye to baseball bats to the face. Symptoms include sharp pain, eyelid swelling, watering eyes, sensitivity to light, and nausea/vertigo. Patients and parents are encouraged to call our office to schedule. We usually have emergency appointments available within 2 hours of the injury, even in the middle of the night.
