SCHOOL VISION SCREENINGS

Most vision screenings performed by school nurses and staff check for clarity of vision (20/20) and screen for high glasses prescriptions. Most school screenings do not check for eye tracking ability, focusing ability, teaming ability, or visual processing ability. These skills are just as important, but many schools are not equipped to test for them. That’s where we come in. Dr. Ryan and our staff will provide complimentary vision screenings to all public and private schools in the Fargo, West Fargo, and Moorhead areas. In just 3 minutes, we can determine if further testing is warranted for kids whose visual skills aren’t age-appropriate. We perform screenings on children from age 3 to high school.

After scheduling a time based on number of students, Dr. Ryan and our staff will come to your school and perform screenings for a morning or afternoon session. Each child will be sent home with their results and any notes made by Dr. Ryan. Most children test normal for all visual skills. In the event that a child tests borderline or deficient, school staff is made aware of the reliability of the child’s testing, and notes are made on the results page sent home with parents. Many optometry offices provide pediatric exams and vision therapy services in the Fargo/Moorhead area, and are able to perform more extensive testing. At Lumen Vision, we make sure that no child receives treatment if they don’t need it. Our screening process is of the same integrity and honesty
